Which camera should I buy?

Written by Noel Christensen in Guides

Any camera enthusiast has heard the question 1000 times before - "which camera do you think I should buy?". A question which is about as easy to answer as "my ass looks big in these pants?" But nevertheless I will make an attempt.

The best camera is the one you have with you

It may sound like a stupid statement, but it's damn about it. Your 60 megapixel Hasselblad camera is not much use if it is at home in a drawer when you need it. The quality in compact cameras are getting better and better with each passing day, and although they are not as high on the side of SLR yet, it is a minority of people who can actually see the difference between the two. Often they are often worth little on image quality, to ensure that you get a camera that you actually bother to carry around.

Megapixels are not equal quality

The biggest selling point for digital cameras is the number of mega pixels - it's as if the more megapixels, the better the camera. But it is far from true. More megapixels means is that individual pixels on the sensor is reduced. And the smaller the pixel size, the more image noise, you will endure.

Optical versus digital zoom

Do not be fooled by promises of 800 times digital zoom, because you can not use it on a cymbal. Digital zoom is done by the image data that are available will be spread over a larger area than they really should. It is akin to taking one quantity of butter and trying to smear 800 pieces of bread with it: the result is What a waste. Optical zoom, however, is done by lenses in the camera's lens moves themselves, and therefore get the image being projected onto the sensor magnified physical - and it offers much higher quality!

Enough talk, what should I buy?

I have found 5 different cameras covering 5 different needs, and 5 different purses. Common to them all is that it is the cameras that I could vouch for recommending, and they perform well for the price.

Although labeled Fuji might not be the first thing people think of when the talk falls on digital cameras, do they actually inexpensive cameras that take pictures can not be beaten for the price. They are good to pack plenty of features into a camera at a low price, and therefore it becomes my "low-cost" recommendation.

nikon l110 Hvilket kamera skal jeg købe? Nikon L110

A little higher up in both price and size, we find Nikon L110 - a so-called super zoom camera, thanks to the 15 times optical zoom. Perfect for the active amateur photographer who is keen on lugging a medium sized compact camera around, and who want great picture quality.

At the opposite extreme, and almost the same price, we have Samsung ST5000. Here it is on the design and the camera is super nice to look at. Specs'ne nothing wrong with large 3 "touch screen on the back, 14 mega pixels and 7 times optical zoom. Ideal camera to always be kept in your pocket and still take very nice pictures.

Here is an SLR camera disguised as a compact camera. IXUS 300HS features advanced manual options, large screen and a house made of aluminum. All in all a really nice camera out that is perfect if you want optimum image quality without buying a big SLR.

And now I want to do something I probably should have struck for. I betray my own camera brand! Nikon D3100 is packed with great features and is probably the camera I am going to recommend the most for my SLR-seeking friends in the near future. Full-HD video with decent autofocus, large assortment of accessories available, compact design and a very reasonable price, makes the D3100 for a winner!

If you're looking for something wilder than the D3100, you have probably already made up your mind, the pocketbook and the needs you have - so I will not confuse you further icon smile Hvilket kamera skal jeg købe?

Hi, just a comment on the good advice that will not soon a test of the IXUS 300 HS, would put up against the IXUS 1000 HS?

I needed a nice alternative to my DSLR, which is not always fun to lug around with (in the city or permanently :) ) And bought the first PowerShot 210 IS, mostly because of the excellent zoom capabilities, but hold up a disappointment for the first time ever returned my photo equipment!

Purchased so totally fabulous IXUS 300 HS, but a month afterwards 1000'eren on the market and goes now and wonder whether it might have been the perfect purchase :) I'm still totally confused over 300, but just the extra Zoom might be enough to change (again) if it is well and feel it keeps the same high level as 300, so please test test :)

Cool site and nice informal review, thank you.
    Greetings
    Ole

    Hi Ole,

We try to keep the Canon to the fire in terms of lending cameras, but we are a "small fish" compared to the big department stores and other major websites, alas!

In return, so we're testing right now FZ100'eren from Panasonic, as there will be a review soon, and it is an exciting camera!

    Hi Noel

My wife wants an SLR for my birthday and I have no idea what to choose, she has never had such a camera before but would like to start. I've seen on the Nikon D5000 and D3100, which is the little brother? In addition, Canon Eos 500 and 550th Or are there others you would recommend?

    Sincerely

I would recommend the EOS 550D or Nikon D3100'eren, it is both current cameras with everything that a modern camera should offer.

    Good luck with it!

    Hello
Perhaps in response to the 1000 times but: I spent many years my Nikon, Nikormat FT3.
    I have 4 pcs lenses for it: Nikkor 50mm 1:2, Nikon series E 28 mm, a Tokina 80 - 300 (as I recall) and the special AF Micro Nikkor 60 mm 1:2.8 D, with which I took amazing close-ups.
Can any of them used on Nikon cameras?
I am tired of my Canon Powershot IS2, and are considering buying a SLR again.

No, unfortunately not, you need the "digital" versions.

After many years in a kind of the standby position, in the case of photo. So I am now starting again. I must certainly say it is something else entirely, with digital photography than with film. The old Nikon, retires.
So I bought a D7000, which has gotten good reviews. But it is like entering another world. The first thing I noticed was the weight really heavy. So all the settings there are and a manual of 348 pages. There is enough for the rest of the year. I also have some new lenses, it is not cheap. But it could always pays to buy good tools. If you buy only the mediocre result will be then. There is a saying about sounds. Good tools are half the work.
The immediate advantage of digital photography is that the result can be seen immediately. And that saves prints and expenditures for movies. One more advantage is that it is possible to change the ISO for every frame, and ISO values have been extended up to the 10-fold. It provides the opportunities that we did not have with film. I am looking to get started.
