Review: Eizo FlexScan S2232W
Written by Noel Christensen in Reviews , Monitors
Eizo is an international company for many years has been manufacturing screens for both the business community in general, but also very much to brokers, hospitals, design studios etc.. Eizo's wish is to produce the best displays that it is technically possible.
Eizo currently has four product lines, each of them is directed against different segments:
FlexScan: Businesses, back office and home
Color Edge: Design, photo, graphics and video
RadiForce: Medical Display
Raptor: Air Traffic Control
As above gives a good insight into, then the Eizo really strong in providing professional solutions, including for hospitals, airports and other locations where stability and accuracy are the watchwords.
Eizo has not forgotten the private user, and the semi-professional users, and your FlexScan series is precisely targeted at this segment.
This time we look at the Eizo FlexScan S2232W has a base 22 "widescreen TFT with 1680 × 1050 resolution, EzUp foot by 90 ° pivot, and features like Auto EcoView, built-in speakers and USB hub.
What's in the box?
Eizo FlexScan S2232W comes in a very adult cardboard box, which is considerably larger than what is normally used to from a standard 22 "screen. This does just that the screen is extremely well protected during transportation and when the foot takes up much, it is necessary to have a fairly large box.
In the box you will find:
Eizo FlexScan S2232W
DVI Cable
VGA cable
Mini Jack -> Mini Jack Cable
USB Cable
220 volt cable
Manuals and CD-ROM
The box is, in other words, full, and you will not be missing a single cable, as there is everything you need. It's nice to see that cables are not saved away, which unfortunately often look at other manufacturers. Here it is just to go to and you can put the screen shot, whether you use DVI or VGA, and cables for both USB hub and built-in speakers are also included.
First impressions
The first thing I noticed when I packed Eizo FlexScan S2232W out, was that it was fairly heavy, and I do not mind that there are some "goods" within a screen, it smells a bit of quality. The big EzUp foot is certainly helping to get the weight up, because it provides so many options for adjusting the screen. Unfortunately it also means that the screen by placing a normal temperature. desk will be at a distance away from the wall when the foot makes the screen is full 28cm deep. It therefore requires a relatively deep desk if you use the foot and does not fit the Eizo FlexScan S2232W on the wall.
The frame on the Eizo FlexScan S2232W is very narrow and the bottom has been room for all 10 buttons that include used for navigating the menu, and activation of particular AutoEcoView.
On the left side of the screen you will find the indbyggede2 port USB hub, which makes it possible to connect eg a USB key, or the like, directly to skærmen.Ydermere have been room for an audio output that can be used to connect a set of headphones. The backing store connections for DVI, VGA, USB and Audio with internal speakers.
Right foot, as I mentioned earlier, is extremely interesting because it provides endless possibilities for adjustment as the boats can be raised / lowered, rotated and tilted. It should therefore be possible to find an optimal setting of the screen, regardless of the environment it is used in. Here is the Eizo miles ahead of the competition, which typically do not offer very many options.
Image Quality
I've tested Eizo FlexScan S2232W both before and after calibration with Datacolor Spyder3 Elite, and the result is nothing less than amazing.
"Out of the box" facing the screen quite excellent, and especially the monitor's ability to show subtle differences are amazing, and compared with my Samsung SyncMaster 226BW, you have the Eizo FlexScan S2232W a more accurate color reproduction and a much larger spread in color shades. I have, including by examining the various websites I visit frequently discovered new shades in the design which I have never seen before, and your digital images now appear even more detailed than I have been accustomed to.
After calibration, the Eizo FlexScan S2232W had only very few deviations from the values on Datacolor Spyder3 Elite provides the screen gets another boost in quality. The colors are lovely bright hues stand out clearly and distinctly, and there is generally just a really good picture.
Film / Video
I've tested Eizo FlexScan S2232W with both DVD movies and online video, and the result is quite excellent, the viewing angle is more than good, and there are no signs of lag or incorrect colors. As an added plus, there is not any kind of backlight bleeding to track, so when dark scenes are not bothered by light at the edges or sides of the screen.
Play
It would of course also tested whether Eizo FlexScan S2232W can follow when it comes to 3D games, and even if you can see that not one of the fastest panels which sit on the screen, I think it really does the job quite honestly. One must of course simultaneously keep in mind that the people who invest in the Eizo FlexScan S2232W is likely not to be found among the hardcore gamers, but among graphic designers, photographers and the like.
Office
Eizo itself highlights Eizo FlexScan S2232W as a dedicated office screen, and it can easily be defended. It is certainly not a screen you get tired in your eyes to look at, among other things thanks to the built-in light sensor which adjusts screen brightness according to ambient light. This is certainly a feature I can find useful in a workplace where lighting can be varied. Text and images are sharp and clear, and generally screen only nice to look at. In terms of size limits Eizo also a wide audience, since 22 "today could easily be part of a modern office environment where you might want one screen instead of a dual screen solution.
Imaging / Graphics
Eizo also highlights Eizo FlexScan S2232W as a top choice for graphic designers, photographers, etc.., And again I can only give Eizo right. The screen's ability to display correct colors, hues and contrast - make it an excellent tool for all those who work A professional with either pictures or graphics, where it is a requirement that it be produced on the screen is the same as for example is printed in a magazine. As mentioned earlier, I have, after switching from my Samsung SyncMaster 226BW, discovered new details and color shades, both digital photos, and quite regulærere websites I regularly visit. This alone is a good proxy for the high quality that characterizes the Eizo FlexScan S2232W.
Extras
As previously mentioned, is the Eizo FlexScan S2232W equipped with a 2 port USB hub on the left side of the screen, and this work fine if you quickly need to copy files onto a USB stick, hard disk or the like and is really an excellent feature.
The screen is also built-in speakers, 0.5 watts, but they're of such poor quality that I can not recommend them for anything other than the usual Windows sounds. Netradio and the like are without some kind of bottom, and it's almost an insult to the music to listen to it on the Eizo FlexScan S2232W. For Eizo FlexScan S2232W's defense it must be noted that there is an extra feature, and when the screen is directed at business, so the speakers are quite nice as they can reproduce speech, windows-like warnings.
AutoEcoView is a feature that Eizo market quite aggressively at the moment and with good reason, since it is a "Green" function, and energy-saving products is something almost all manufacturers are working intensely with the moment.
AutoEcoView feature function in the way of a built-in sensor measures the ambient light, and from there adjust the screen brightness so it corresponds to reading a paper sheet in typical office lighting. In practice you will find that the screen turns up the brightness when there is much light in the room and sit in a dark office the brightness is lowered. This means both an energy saving, while it is far better for the eyes as the brightness adjusted as ambient light.
Eizo FlexScan S2232W is also equipped with a feature called Fine Contrast, which consists of 5 different display modes, Text, Movie, Picture, Web Browsing and sRGB. These modes can be selected directly in the screen menu or by using the included Screen Manager Pro software. I am not extremely excited for these conditions, but there will probably be some for whom it is an excellent solution in place of a calibration.

Conclusion
I probably can not be hiding in the Eizo FlexScan S2232W has surprised me positively, even though I have become acquainted with the previous models in the FlexScan series.
Eizo, as they themselves have pointed out, intended for professional users, and this covers both offices, graphic artists and photographers and others who use their video professionally, and need a monitor that reproduces the image as accurately as possible. This marks can clearly when using Eizo FlexScan S2232W, and especially after a calibration where you can see for themselves note that the Eizo FlexScan S2232W, compared to its competitors, does not deviate much from the optimal values.
Do you use your PC primarily for games, Internet, mail, etc.., There are screens on the market providing more "value for money". If you belong to, however, the more professional segment, which uses screen work-related, or just have a desire for a screen that gives the most accurate and natural colors, so they can not round Eizo FlexScan S2232W.
When you look at the price that this writing is $ 3712.50 see Eizo.dk, so does the price maybe a bit high. But the problem is that Eizo FlexScan S2232W can not, and should be compared with the screens being advertised in the tender papers, which often gets kicked a 22 "screen in the neck for the 1500 -
Eizo FlexScan S2232W is a display of extremely high quality - and the picture quality is the key factor, so you should have Eizo FlexScan S2232W in your deliberations.
