Review: Canon IXUS 210

We leap gracefully over the introduction, as all readers should know the Canon very well by now.

Canon's IXUS range has always been characterized by attractive design camera with focus on design and ease of operation. Canon IXUS 210 is one of the new models, and it ranked in the top of the IXUS series.

Canon IXUS 210 include equipped with 14.1 megapixel resolution, 24mm wide angle, 5x optical zoom, image stabilization, HD video and large 3.5 "touch screen operated, all wrapped in a stylish camera body is available in 4 fashionable colors.

But let us see how the Canon IXUS 210 performs in use.

What's in the box?
Canon IXUS 210 comes in the usual light-green box that is stopped to the brim with cables, manuals, etc..

In the box you will find, besides the Canon IXUS 210, the following:
Manuals, USB cable, AV cable, rechargeable battery, battery charger, wrist strap and power cord.

Here is what one would expect, and Canon IXUS 210 thus differs not from the competition by having more or less accessories in the box. As always, remember to buy a memory card, in this case a SD or SDHC memory cards, available from a few GB and up to 32GB!

Design and Operation
Canon IXUS 210 is a relatively compact pocket camera, which is dominated by a large 3.5 "touch screen. Weight said approx. 160 grams incl. battery, and the dimensions 99.3 x 55.7 x 22.0 mm should not scare some away.

The front is dominated by Canon's 24mm wide-angle lens, the AF-assist illuminator, and a small flash. On one side are HDMI and AV connector hidden behind 2 small doors and the back is completely clean - because all operation is done via the large touch screen. On top of the Canon IXUS 210 will find the button that toggles between "auto" mode function and video function. A playback button for viewing images and video, on / off button, shutter release and of course zoom control - in other words, there are no major changes compared to previous cameras in the IXUS series.

At the bottom we find, true to form, a flap that hides the rechargeable battery and memory card, in addition there are threaded for mounting on a tripod.

The menu on the Canon IXUS 210 is extremely user friendly and of course in Danish.

Functionality
Canon IXUS 210 is a "point and shoot" camera, and it also means that there is a wide range of manual programs, but the option to select either "full auto" or any of the predefined conditions. It works really well, and most of the target group for such a camera will probably be fully satisfied with the "auto" mode. The more advanced user could easily play with the various semi-automatic modes, where you can select portrait and all the other well-known, predefined conditions. The menus are accessed easily via the large touch screen, and all menus are of course in Danish.

The number of options in the menu depends on which mode is selected, the more manual - the more options prospects.

Canon IXUS 210 is present. one of the top models in the somewhat extensive IXUS range, and with specifications such as the 24mm wide angle, 14.1-megapixel resolution, 3.5 "touch screen and much more, is not spared on the technique. Canon IXUS 210 is equipped with Canon's latest image processor, called DIGIC 4 as including helps to provide crisp shots of moving subjects. In addition, of course, face detection, HD video (720p) and all 22 different scene modes.

Another significant detail is that the Canon IXUS 210 is equipped with 5x optical zoom and image stabilization, as most of its competitors "only" has 4x optical zoom.

Image Quality
The picture quality from Canon IXUS 210 is as expected of a pocket camera, where things like appearance and size are often weighted higher than image quality. The pictures I have taken the test period with the Canon IXUS 210, could immediately be taken with any other reasonable compact camera that range 2000-2500 - in other words, it is not available for Canon IXUS 210 stand out from competitors.

Generally, the images from the Canon IXUS 210, however, quite good, with nice colors, a good degree of detail and a good macro mode.

Video Quality
Canon IXUS 210 shooting in HD, that is 1280 × 720, which is also known as 720p - dear child has many names.

HD video is in itself no seal, and there are big differences in how different cameras record, although they are all shooting in HD or HD for that matter.

Canon IXUS 210 is doing fairly well, but thus also said that quality is not great. I have seen many compact cameras in the same price range and category, which takes up considerably more detailed and crisp video than Canon IXUS 210th

It should be vice versa also said that I have encountered similar cameras that record in a poorer quality than the Canon IXUS 210, then the Canon IXUS 210 positions itself somewhere in the middle of the field with a quality and level of detail I will allow myself to call mediocre.

Conclusion
Canon IXUS 210 has been quite a difficult size - I usually always seems that Canon's IXUS series featuring new great features, great quality picture and sound and video quality. Unfortunately, I do not quite Canon IXUS 210 meets IXUS name, without, however, be understood that the Canon IXUS 210 is a bad product - it just does not live up to the expectations I had for a new member of the IXUS series.

It must be said that the picture quality is extremely sensible touch screen is quite excellent, and there are particular HDMI output for connecting directly to your flat screen in living room.
