Review: AGFAPHOTO AF5077MS
Written by Noel Christensen in Reviews , Digital Photo Frames
We have had a scanner on the test bench at AGFAPHOTO currently owned by Sagem Communications, this time it's a digital photo frame we should look at.
AGFAPHOTO AF5077MS is a 7 "large digital photo frame in 4:3 format. The design is simple, white gloss and the frame itself is very thin. In addition to displaying still images in JPEG, then AGFAPHOTO AF5077MS also display video in MJPEG and MGEP4 format and play music in MP3 format.
AGFAPHOTO AF5077MS is one of the smallest screens in AGFAPHOTO's range, which also consists of 8 ", 10" and 13.3 ".
Let's see how AGFAPHOTO AF5077MS performing against the huge variety of digital photo frames that are currently on the market.
What's in the box?
Whether it is because the product German ancestry, I can not say there is something "German thoroughness" of the package in some way, is quite nice, albeit a bit boring. The box is quite heavy and it does not result from the photo frame, power supply or the like - no, it is actually manual weighing!
In the box you will find, besides AGFAPHOTO AF5077MS, a small remote control, manual, 220 volt power supply and socket for respectively U.S. and United Kingdom.
Design
AGFAPHOTO AF5077MS probably will not have to run off with beautiful design awards, but that may well be designed nicely, and it is precisely the case with AGFAPHOTO AF5077MS.
The surface is in white gloss, and this goes through over this whole, on the back. The glossy surface does, however, that dirty / greasy fingers can be seen very easily.
Home is completely free of buttons, and only frame surrounds the screen of 7 ", a smart detail is that the frame itself is removable, so you can remove dust or dirt that may accumulate between the screen and the frame - a good feature I think.
On the back is placed buttons if you should have thrown the remote control away. Entrance to the SD memory card, etc.. stored in the integrated foot which then also means it can not be hung on the wall.
The foot is, in addition to input to the SD memory card, an on / off button with blue light input to the USB flash memory, USB connectivity and input to the power supply.
On the right side is hidden buttons for menu and settings, very discreet and almost to overlook.
Functionality
As I mentioned at the beginning, then AGFAPHOTO AF5077MS both display pictures, play movies and music.
When you throw an SD memory card into AGFAPHOTO AF5077MS, so it automatically starts to play a slideshow with your photos - but you press "Menu" you can access to the finest menu I have ever seen on a digital picture frame. A menu that has a 3D look. Below is a video walkthrough of AGFAPHOTO AF5077MS where you can see the features, the bold menu and its ability to play both pictures, video and music.
Slideshows and viewing images generally work fine, the menu is not the fastest, but it is nice and it works. Picture quality is also reasonable, and the viewing angle creates no problems at oblique angles.
Playing video function too but it seems like it "stutters" a bit, but it's probably somewhere understandable, since we are talking about a digital photo frame and not a video player.
Playing music also works, but the sound is not impressive to say the least, so I find it hard to see in what context you would need, or desire to play music on AGFAPHOTO AF5077MS. The built-in speaker is simply not very strong, but inversely to buy enough nor AGFAPHOTO AF5077MS to use it as stereo.
One thing, however, not been fully implemented, is the fact that in order to transfer pictures, movies and music to AGFAPHOTO AF5077MS via USB, so it must also have 220 volt power, with USB connection. Furthermore, there is no battery in AGFAPHOTO AF5077MS, then the function is a requirement to have a power outlet nearby.
Another thing that separates AGFAPHOTO AF5077MS from many of its competitors, is the built-in "Eco" mode and an automatic on / off function that conserves energy, and just energy conservation is of course a hot topic at the moment.

Conclusion
AGFAPHOTO AF5077MS costing just over 800, - online, and it seems a bit expensive for a 7 "digital photo frame when you see that sometimes you can get 7" digital photo frames to 250, - in the supermarket.
It is worth noting however that AGFAPHOTO AF5077MS is one of the few digital photo frames in white gloss, and it's a product that must fit into the rest of the decor, so to have the possibility of a white model is really nice.
Furthermore, the menu that is just a little more delicious than you are accustomed to, and the product seems solid and complete.
So the conclusion is that the price is in the wrong than to return you get a good product with good features - in white gloss.
