Cameralabs.com har anmeldt Canon PowerShot SX230 HS, Canon’s topmodel indenfor kompakt superzoom i øjeblikket.

The Canon PowerShot SX230 HS is the latest incarnation of Canon’s highly popular pocket super-zoom. Announced in February 2011 to replace the year-old PowerShot SX210 IS, it’s the first SX model to carry the HS suffix. A step-down in resolution from the 14 Megapixel SX210, the SX230′s 12.1 Megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor and Digic 4 processor provide excellent low light performance combined with 1080p HD video recording

The SX230 HS sticks with the 14x optical zoom of its predecessor and the 3in screen, though the display resolution has been increased to 460k dots. Crucially, it adds a GPS receiver, the lack of which put its predecessor at a disadvantage compared with the earlier Sony Cyber-shot HX5 and Panasonic Lumix TZ10 / ZS7. Note: the PowerShot SX220 HS, released alongside the SX230 HS (in Europe only) lacks the GPS but is otherwise identical.

Cameralabs.com har anmeldt Canon EOS 1100D, D-SLR kameraet der skal afløse den super populære EOS 1000D.

The EOS Rebel T3, or 1100D, is Canon’s latest entry-level DSLR. Announced in February 2011, it comes no less than two and a half years after its predecessor, the EOS Rebel XS / 1000D; indeed it’s such a long time in the digital camera industry, especially for Canon, that many wondered if the company had abandoned the true budget DSLR market for good.

That’s certainly not the case: the EOS T3 / 1100D manages to hit a respectably low price point, while comfortably undercutting its major rival, the Nikon D3100. As such, while the specification of the latest Canon is solid and boosts most of its predecessor’s numbers, it’s not surprising to find most of the technology has been lifted from previous models.

Panasonic’s Lumix DMC-G3 is a compact interchangeable lens camera with a DSLR-sized sensor and HD video capabilities. Successor to the Lumix G2, it’s the first of Panasonic’s third generation of ‘EVIL’ cameras, and like its predecessors, it’s based on the Micro Four Thirds standard.

Like the Lumix G2 before it, the G3 employs the same high resolution electronic viewfinder and fully articulated touch-sensitive screen, although this time the body’s even smaller than before; indeed Panasonic claims the G3 is the smallest and lightest camera with interchangeable lenses and a built-in viewfinder. Surprisingly despite featuring an electronic viewfinder, the body is only fractionally larger than screen-only models like the Lumix GF2 and Olympus E-PL2. Suffice it to say it’s considerably smaller and lighter than traditional DSLRs with articulated screens, such as Canon’s EOS 600D / Rebel T3i or Nikon’s D5000.

Cameralabs.com har anmeldt Nikon D5100, afløseren for den vældig populære D5000 som efterhånden har nogle år på bagen.

The Nikon D5100 is the company’s latest ‘upper-entry-level’ DSLR aimed at beginners or those wanting a step-up from a basic budget model. Announced in April 2011, it comes exactly two years after its predecessor, the popular D5000. The new D5100 is positioned between the entry-level D3100 and the mid-range D7000, and goes head-to-head against Canon’s EOS 600D / Rebel T3i.

Externally the Nikon D5100 enjoys a redesigned shape that’s noticeably shorter than its predecessor and a little lighter too. Physically the biggest difference though concerns the screen round the back: it’s still articulated, but taking a leaf from Canon and Panasonic, it’s now hinged at the side rather than the bottom. Nikon’s also upgraded the screen from the basic 2.7in / 230k panel of the D5000 to a larger and much more detailed 3in / 921k panel here.

Gutterne på Cameralabs.com har anmeldt et af de produkter som de fleste foto-interesserede kun drømmer om, nemlig Canon EF 500mm f4L IS USM.

Canon’s EF 500mm f4L IS USM is a super-telephoto lens adored by wildlife and sports photographers alike. The 500mm focal length, equivalent to 800mm when mounted on a cropped-frame body, delivers decent-sized images of distant subjects, while the f4 maximum aperture allows you to isolate them with a very shallow depth-of-field. As one of Canon’s top-end professional lenses, the build and optical quality are excellent: the lens can handle tough conditions, while delivering well-corrected images even with the aperture wide-open on full-frame bodies.

The EF 500mm f4L IS USM is understandably large and heavy compared to mainstream lenses, but in super-telephoto terms is actually considered to be comparatively light and compact. Indeed it’s comfortably smaller and lighter than the next model up in the range, the EF 600mm f4L IS USM, and selected in preference by those who may need to hike with it for any distance or attempt an occasional handheld shot. Don’t get us wrong, you wouldn’t want to handhold or hike with a 3.87Kg lens for long, but it’s a world-apart from the 5.36Kg heft of the 600mm f4L in portability, not to mention being 69mm shorter and around 20% cheaper too.

Announced in January 2011, the Canon PowerShot A1200 is a 12.1 Megapixel budget compact with a 4x optical zoom lens and 2.7 inch LCD screen. Unusually for a compact camera these days, the A1200 is also equipped with a small optical viewfinder. In another slight departure from convention it additionally relies on two AA batteries for power rather than a proprietary Lithium Ion battery.

The PowerShot A1200 has all of the ease-of-use features you’d expect from a budget compact – only the PowerShot A800 sits below it in the A-series line-up – and also includes new features like Live View Control and Creative filters. Impressively for the money, it can also shoot 720p HD video, but like the A800 below it, lacks any form of image stabilisation.

Cameralabs.com har anmeldt Canon’s nye consumer-flagskib, nemlig Canon EOS 600D.

Canon’s EOS 600D – or Rebel T3i as it’s known in North America – is the company’s latest upper entry-level DSLR. Announced in February 2011, it’s numerically the successor to the EOS 550D / T2i, although the older model is expected to remain on-sale at a lower price point.

The EOS 600D / T3i is positioned between the EOS 550D / T2i and EOS 60D in Canon’s current DSLR lineup, but at first glance it’s much closer to the former. Externally the EOS 600D / T3i greatly resembles the 550D / T2i, with similar dimensions, weight, build, styling and controls. Internally it also shares the same 18 Megapixel sensor and core HD movie modes, not to mention the same viewfinder, AF system, continuous shooting, 3in 1040k pixel screen and metering, but as Canon tradition dictates, it inherits a number of key aspects from a higher-end model in the range (in this case the EOS 60D), along with at least one brand new feature.

Panasonic’s Lumix DMC-TZ20 (or ZS10 as it’s known in North America) is the latest version of its enormously popular travel zoom camera. Announced in January 2011, one year after the best-selling Lumix TZ10 / ZS7, the new model may physically resemble its predecessor, but now features a broader 16x optical zoom range, a touch-screen display, higher resolution movie recording at 1080i, and enhanced GPS capabilities with many more landmarks stored in its database.

There’s also an inevitable boost in resolution, although coupled with different sensor technology, it does at least now allow faster continuous shooting.

“More features than you’d expect to find on a pocket camera”. That’s the pitch for the subject of today’s review, the Casio Exilim EX-ZR10 point and shoot. At first inspection it might well have the specs to support this claim, with a 7x optical zoom, Slide Panorama feature, 1080p video recording with HDMI output, and a high-speed video function supporting speeds up to 480 frames per second.

The EX-ZR10, not to be confused with the Pentax Optio RZ10, closely resembles Sony’s rival Cyber-shot WX5 in terms of its boxy yet not unsophisticated design. Even the control layout – via its top-mounted stereo microphones in particular – and feature set is similar, the Sony being some £20 cheaper at time of writing.

Nikon’s enthusiast-targeted competition for the Canon EOS 60D and 7D, Olympus E5, Pentax K-7 et al arrives in the impressively rigid shape and form of this 16.2 megapixel digital leviathan. Sensor size aside, the D7000 digital SLR extends its mid-range appeal via a magnesium alloy body construction, which is moisture resistant and dust sealed to boot, so should withstand occasional mistreatment.

As a nod toward semi pro status it also features twin media card slots so there’s less chance of ‘weekend warriors’ who shoot weddings and the ilk in their spare time getting caught short of storage. Tellingly, it was the first device we reached for when asked to shoulder the responsibility of visually commemorating a friend’s landmark birthday celebrations during our test period.
