Review: Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM

Digitalcamerareview.com har anmeldt Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM, som er et forholdsvis nyt makroobjektib fra Canon, der indtil nu har høstet en del rosende ord.

The heritage of Canon’s new EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro lens dates back to the 1980s when Canon began researching methods to compensate for camera movement. They introduced their first stabilized lens for SLR film cameras in 1995. Since then, and particularly with the booming popularity of digital imaging, stabilization of lenses or camera bodies has rapidly become a way of life for all manufacturers.

In July 2009 Canon announced the development of a hybrid lens stabilization system that compensates for both angular (rotational) and shift (linear) camera shake, and promised the new technology would appear in a SLR lens release before the end of the year. From a Canon press release.

Canon EOS 550D – Første indtryk

Vi har i dag haft det nye Canon EOS 550D DSLR kamera i hænderne, og lad os sige det med det samme: Det ligner Canon EOS 500D til forveksling!

Canon EOS 550D lanceres dette forår, og vil kører sideløbende med Canon EOS 500D, som den bliver storebror til.

Canon EOS 550D er naturligvis blevet opgraderet i forhold til Canon EOS 500D’eren og har arvet enkelte funktioner fra Canon EOS 7D. Af nye features kan bl.a. nævnes en opløsning på 18 megapixels, en LCD skærm med 1040000 pixels og en lysmåler med hele 63 zoner (Som i EOS 7D) Det skal dog siges at jeg ikke ville kunne se forskel på den skærmen, om den hedder 920.000 pixels eller 1.040.000 pixes.

Sætter man Canon EOS 500D og EOS 550D ned ved siden af hinanden, vil man nok have svært ved at se forskel, men der er små forskelle, bl.a. ser knapperne bagpå kameraet lidt anderledes ud. Placering af knapper, samt grebet, er dog bibeholdt som ved EOS 500D’eren, og det er også fornuftigt - for det virker!

Det er yderst sjældent at Canon’s nye DSLR kameraer ikke bliver en succes, så mon ikke det også bliver tilfældet med EOS 550D? Har du allerede et Canon EOS 500D er der dog inge grund til at løbe ud og købe EOS 550D, men har du et Canon EOS 1000D, 450D eller måske en ældre model, så kunne EOS 550D sagtens være interessant bl.a. takket være muligheden for at optage Full HD video.

Canon EOS 550D vil naturligvis blive anmeldt så snart vi modtager et eksemplar til test.

Preview: Canon EOS 1D Mk IV

As I reported last week, Canon has just announced the launch of the new EOS 1D Mk IV. It’s not going on sale until the end of December, but earlier this week I attended the Canon Pro Photo Solutions 09 show at the Business Design Centre in London, where I was able to try out a pre-production sample of the new camera.

From the launch of the original EOS-1D in 2001, the 1D series has been the camera of choice for many of the world’s top professional photographers, particularly photojournalists, sports and wildlife photographers, for whom its high speed performance, reliability and robust weatherproof construction are just as important as its class-leading image quality. With the 1D Mk IV Canon has responded to feedback from its professional users and further developed and improved all of these qualities. I suspect that there may also have been some impetus to upstage the Nikon’s specialist photojournalism camera the D3s, which is the EOS-1D Mk IV’s only real competition.

Preview: Panasonic Lumix GF1

dpreview.com er altid blandt de første til at bringe previews af de nyeste digitalkameraer, og denne gang er ingen undtagelse. I dag har Panasonic lanceret Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1, og allerede nu ligger der et preview klar fra dpreview.com

When Panasonic showed us the first Micro Four Thirds camera, the DMC-G1, our first question was ‘why does it look like an SLR?’. We’d been hoping for a much more compact body, something that more effectively straddled the line between the convenience of a compact and the quality and versatility of a digital SLR. Well, a couple of months ago we were ushered into a private meeting with Panasonic to see the GF1, Panasonic’s answer to all those critics who failed to see the point of Micro Four Thirds if it was simply going to ape conventional SLR styling.

And, once we’d been fully briefed on just how secret this all was (totally moot, as it transpires, since pictures of the GF1 were leaked and published extensively a couple of weeks later), we got our hands on what Panasonic hopes will be the camera to convince those put off by the limitations of the Olympus E-P1.

The E-P1 looms large over any discussion of the GF1; rarely has a single model caused so much excitement – and fevered discussion – inside and outside the photographic community, with even Panasonic seemingly surprised by just how much press it’s been getting (and doubtless kicking themselves for not getting there first).

Preview: Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1

Dagen i dag har især været præget af nyheden om Canon EOS 7D, samt Panasonic’s nye Lumix DMC-GF1. Digitalcamerareview.com har haft en stund alene med Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1, og har lagt et preview online, så vi andre kan få en fornemmelse af hvad der er os i vente.

Panasonic offered us a brief shooting tour with a pre-production Lumix GF1 at a press event in Germany this week. The first images and video emerging from the just-announced GF1 offer a glimpse at the performance of Panasonic’s latest Micro Four Thirds offering – and European history. Take a look at how the pre-production GF1 fared in and around Berlin’s Castle Charlottenburg.

Remeber, this isn’t a production-ready unit, so these aren’t production-ready samples. Sound familiar? They should offer some insight to the new Lumix GF1 and, at the very least, a nice visual guide to one of Berlin’s historic landmarks.

 Holding the GF1 brought to mind an oversized, slightly heavier point-and-shoot. The flat camera body mirrors the style of Panasonic’s Lumix ultracompacts, like the recently announced ZR1. A curved grip on the front and a small thumbrest on the back keep it steady in the shooter’s right hand.

Canon offered us some one-on-one time with the just-announced EOS 7D, and with only a few precious minutes to spend with a pre-production unit, and we wasted no time putting it to work. Stills, 1080p video, a full range of ISO shots – it’s all here. Keep on reading for some initial impressions and samples from the brand spanking new Canon EOS 7D.

 The EOS 7D unit I tested had all the look and feel of a production-ready unit, but the team at Canon hadn’t yet finalized all of the gear under the hood. Bear in mind that these images and photos will offer a nice preview of what we can expect to see from this camera, but should by no means offer any final conclusions about how the 7D will perform.

It has the same sturdy feel in hand as the 5D Mark II but in a tighter, slightly less bulky body.
